Brunch At Grey Crane St John Street London EC1

While in the area for Clerkenwell Design Week, I stopped by Grey Crane on St John Street for brunch after seeing so many good reviews. Close to Angel station, the café immediately felt calm and welcoming, with low music, cosy interiors and a relaxed neighbourhood atmosphere. If you’re looking for the best places for brunch near Angel Station or cafes on St John Street, Grey Crane is well worth exploring.

Grey Crane Brunch Menu

The sweeter side of the menu features fluffy pancakes with a choice of toppings: maple syrup and raspberries, banana with Nutella, lemon-honey ricotta, and hot-mix berry compote. Alternatively, you can opt for the apple and cinnamon crêpes or porridge with caramelised apples, pistachios and honey. I settled on the indulgent French toast with mascarpone cream, grilled banana, honey and pistachio flakes, which was rich and satisfying. It was a bit extravagant for a Wednesday, but I was going to be out all day, so I felt I deserved it! Sweet brunch prices range from £8.90-14.90.

If you prefer something savoury, there are plenty of egg dishes, ranging from simple eggs on sourdough to poached eggs with smashed avocado. Then there are more decadent options, including Benedict and Royale, shakshuka, a sirloin steak hash, and a full breakfast, with or without meat. Non-egg options include hummus or burrata on toast. Savoury plate prices are from £8.90 to £20.90.

Coffee was equally good; they use Allpress beans, one of my favourites. I had time to check out the map for Clerkenwell Design Week as I sipped my latte. Hot drinks include everything from dirty chai to matcha latte. When it’s hot, you might like lemonade; choose from classic, orange, or mint. With fresh juices, wine, beer and cocktails, you can enjoy a leisurely brunch at the weekend.

They also open on some nights for an early dinner, serving small plates such as pan-fried prawns and pasta dishes, as well as mains including braised lamb shank, sea bass, and sirloin steak. Desserts feature San Sebastian cheesecake, homemade tiramisu and crepes.
